METRO ELIGIBLE FOR TRANSIT SECURITY GRANTS

Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that the METRO transit system is again eligible as a Tier II threat risk to receive transit security grants for fiscal year 2009 through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Tier I, or higher risk transit systems, have been granted set amounts by DHS. Tier II allocations will be determined subject to competitive review.

“We must continually address the security needs of our major transportation networks,” said Costello. “Maintaining a high level of security takes cooperation at all levels of government, and I will continue to support these efforts.”
