Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-12) applauds Governor Quinn for his quick action for declaring Franklin, Jackson and Williamson counties a state disaster area. Costello said that he will immediately contact the White House for a federal disaster declaration should Governor Quinn request a presidential disaster declaration.
“If Governor Quinn submits a formal request for a federal disaster declaration, I will immediately contact the White House and ask President Obama to act quickly,” said Costello.
A federal disaster declaration can only be issued by the President after receiving a formal request from Governor Quinn.
Costello will be in the area on Monday to assess the damage and meet with local officials.
