Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that the Southern Illinois Board of Trustees and Shawnee Community College have received grants from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The grants, part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, are through the Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students program which funds health profession schools and training programs. These schools and programs, in turn, provide scholarships to full-time health profession students, with priority given to those in financial need.
“These grants will provide financially disadvantaged students the opportunity to pursue careers in health care,” said Costello. “This investment not only helps these students but also benefits the communities in which they will serve.”
